What is Acne?

Acne is a common condition which is associated with adolescence, but can continue or recur throughout adulthood, particularly in times of stress or hormonal change. Symptoms include:

  • Spots and pimples, sometimes with pus
  • Red and tender lumps and bumps
  • Enlarged cysts or nodules
  • Whiteheads and blackheads

Acne can result in scarring if not properly treated. It can also can cause deep embarrassment and self-esteem issues for the sufferer. Treatment is highly advisable to avoid long-term problems.

Laser Acne Treatment

Laser acne treatment provides an excellent alternative to topical treatments (creams) or medication (antibiotics/acne pills). The Harmony XL Pro laser works to destroy the acne-causing bacteria and stimulate the skin’s healing responses. The manufacturers state:

Acne scar treatment focuses on the areas where former acne has damaged the skin surface. For individuals with lighter skin tones, this scarring usually causes redness and sometimes brown marks, whilst post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (darkening) is characteristic of these unwanted blemishes on darker skin tones.

Intense blue-wavelength light targets the acne-causing bacteria and rapidly destroys the bacteria without damaging the surrounding tissue, and can actually decrease the inflammatory response. Additionally the heat helps to regulate oil production, effectively destroying acne and leaving you with a clearer skin.

Generally most patients will need 6-8 treatments. Treatment is suitable for most people; however, prior to treatment a free consultation is mandatory during which a medical history is taken and an assessment of the desired treatment area is carried out. This will then allow the practitioner to determine suitability for treatment, how many sessions will be required and the expected results.

It depends on which area is being treated. Typically, half face treatment is 30 minutes, full face treatment is 45 minutes, full face and neck treatment is 60 minutes and chest only treatment is 45 minutes.

There is little or no downtime with this fast and effective treatment. However, there may be some mild redness on the skin.
